Job summary

RTX's Compression Systems Engineering group seeks a goal‑oriented Principal Mechanical Design Engineer to support the F135 Base or ECU HPC CIPTs. The selected candidate will lead complex tasks and directly support IPTL and program managers.

The role requires a BS or advanced degree in mechanical/aerospace engineering with 8+ years (or 5+ with advanced degree). U.S. citizenship is required. Domestic travel up to 20% may be necessary.

Qualifications

• BS in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering with 8+ years of relevant experience.
• Alternatively, an advanced degree with 5+ years of mechanical-design experience.
• U.S. citizenship is required to access program information.

Responsibilities

• Develop innovative and technically sound design solutions that meet program schedule milestones.
• Lead producibility investigations with manufacturing vendors, including EFPRs both remotely and on-site.
• Lead ECU Design Validation activities, supporting manufacturing coordination and module-integration efforts.
• Apply advanced 3D modeling tools to refine component- and module-level designs.
• Lead or support field-incidents investigations, including root-cause analysis and corrective-action implementation.
• Develop serviceable limits through advanced data-processing and cross-discipline collaboration.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary IPTs across design, structures, aero, HTSF, manufacturing, quality, and other modules.
• Lead or assist with safety-risk analyses and risk-mitigation planning; present technical results to customers and program management.
• Mentor early-career engineers within the IPT/CIPT and design organization.
• Improve engineering efficiency using advanced data-mining, automated tools, and AI.
• Domestic travel of 10–20% may be required.
