Job summary

Boom Supersonic is building a brand-new materials lab and seeks a dedicated lab/test engineer to lead mechanical testing of aerospace alloys. You will draft procedures, run campaigns, and work with design engineers to generate material data for engine development.

You will collaborate with technicians and engineers to ensure data integrity, perform metallography, and help stand up the lab’s capabilities from scratch, shaping the program from day one.

Qualifications

• Hands-on testing with specimens and load trains.
• Familiarity with ASTM standards governing mechanical testing.
• Ability to write procedures and ensure traceability of data.
• Experience in a lab setting related to aerospace materials is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Plan and execute mechanical test campaigns on aerospace alloys: tensile and fatigue (LCF/HCF) and creep.
• Collaborate with lab technicians and senior M&P engineers; document everything.
• Write and validate lab procedures against ASTM standards.
• Build data backbone: tracking, logs, pipelines, and data reduction scripts.
• Support metallographic evaluation and SEM inspection; fractography and failure analysis.
• Assist with test matrices, traceability, and statistical treatment of material data.
• Commission new lab equipment and stand up new test capabilities.
• Support NCR and root-cause investigations with disciplined documentation.
