Job Summary
GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT: Under the general supervision of the Supply Support Manager and within established hospital and departmental guidelines, the Lead Material Handler - CWN is responsible for a wide variety of functions, including but not limited to, assessing and replenishing med/surg supplies, maintaining pod profiles and par levels, placing outside orders and maintaining inventory levels. The lead for CWN is also responsible for training new staff on new products, quality assurance review of bedside cart delivery system. Performs all job functions of a material handler.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Performs all job functions required and expected of the materials handler. Basic distribution functions including, but not limited to, unit assessment and replenishment of med/surg supplies and ordering supplies from outside vendors. Assists with general supervision of assigned employees assuring all tasks are completed in a timely and efficient manner. Assists with training new employees, provide training on new products, support product conversions. Reports any discrepancies, problems or questions to manager, related to supply, acquisition and distribution process. Focuses on customer service issues such as resolving customer inquiries related to Supply Support and maintaining positive working relationships with individual unit staff members. Collaborates with Nursing Units and Inventory Controller on planning, logistics, and supply flow continuity. Place outside orders, track inventory needs. Follows hospital, TJC, DPS, OSHA and CMS guidelines and procedures for supply stocking and rotation. The lead materials handler may be present in secure medication storage areas and are allowed to handle and distribute medications supplied by the BWH materials management department. Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS:
High School diploma required; Bachelor’s degree preferred. Basic mathematical and reading skills. Must have technical knowledge of distribution and vendor relationships. Must have the ability to operate power equipment. Must have general customer service and problem resolution skills. Database and PC application skills required.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Ability to work in a fast paced and stressful environment. On feet most of 8 hour shift. Must be able to lift up to fifty pounds (50 lbs.) Must be able push/pull 400 lbs. using flat bed (manual); 800 lbs. using pallet jack (manual). Some hazards associated with soiled linen, needles. Must have the ability to adjust to operational changes including service and schedule changes.
