Qualifications

• Must hold a valid US Coast Guard Chief Engineer license for motor vessels.
• MMC with endorsement and medical certificate must be maintained for the duration of employment.
• TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Credential) required at appointment and maintained thereafter.
• Medical examination and fitness requirements per Coast Guard rules; drug testing on appointment and random testing during employment.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and direct operation of main propulsion and auxiliaries on diesel or diesel-electric ferries.
• Oversee maintenance and repair of boilers, electrical equipment, steering pumps, and fuel/oil tanks below deck.
• Ensure compliance with USCG, ABS, safety management system, and NYC DOT regulations; keep records and prepare reports.
• Coordinate with shore management and ensure safe, compliant operations aboard Staten Island Ferry boats.
