The City of Hemet is currently accepting applications for the position of Lead Maintenance Worker. There are two (2) vacancies in the Public Works Department, one in the Storm Drain division and one in the Streets division.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

(include but are not limited to the following)

1. Leads, reviews, and performs the work of staff responsible for the construction, maintenance, repair, and operation of streets, installation, repair, and maintenance of curbs, gutters, sidewalks, parks, storm drains, and refuse; develops and implements crew assignments; inspects and reviews work methods, performance, and quality of work performed; conducts safety and training meetings; provides input and recommendations on employee evaluations; assumes responsibility for more difficult and complex tasks.
2. Recommends service levels to the Supervisor; performs field observations to ensure compliance with department policies, practices, and City ordinances; prepares reports for the Supervisor related to division activities; serves as acting division supervisor as required.
3. Oversees the operation and maintenance of public works crew equipment and machinery, including trucks, loaders, pavers, backhoes, power tools, and equipment; ensures adherence to safe work methods, procedures, and practices; inspects division equipment and ensures compliance with department practices; responds to maintenance needs, and schedules appropriate service and repair.
4. Responds to questions, concerns, and emergency calls from the public; makes recommendations and/or takes appropriate action to resolve issues; responds to inquiries about department policies, rules, regulations, and City ordinances; establishes and maintains a customer service orientation within the work unit.
5. Demonstrates a full understanding of applicable policies, procedures, and work methods associated with assigned duties; evaluates assigned work activities; estimates time, materials, and equipment necessary for successful completion of assignments; acquires necessary resources as appropriate.
6. Establishes positive working relationships with community organizations, state/local agencies, City management and staff, and the public.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and/or Experience: Any combination of education and experience that provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities for a Lead Maintenance Worker. Typically, this includes three years of experience in construction, maintenance, repair, and operation of streets, parks, and storm drains, along with a high school diploma or equivalent.

CERTIFICATION/LICENSE:

Possession of a valid Class A California driver's license or must obtain one within six (6) months of appointment.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

This position requires physical activities such as sitting, standing, walking on various surfaces, reaching, twisting, kneeling, bending, and more. It involves working outdoors in all weather conditions, using chemicals and lubricants, and exposure to hazards. The role may require climbing ladders, working at heights, in confined spaces, and operating heavy machinery. Emergency response may be required outside regular hours.

Environment:

Standard office environment with moderate noise and controlled temperature. Travel between sites and interaction with the public are expected.

Selection Process:
