Job Summary
Under the direction of the Maintenance Manager or designee, the Lead Maintenance Supervisor oversees all maintenance operations across multiple shifts to ensure equipment reliability, production support, and a safe work environment. This role is responsible for leading the maintenance team, reducing downtime, managing preventive and predictive maintenance programs, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities

- Support production by minimizing equipment and tooling downtime through root cause analysis and corrective action.
- Troubleshoot and resolve mechanical and PLC-related issues.
- Coordinate and execute preventive and predictive maintenance plans, ensuring accurate documentation and evaluation.
- Supervise and coach maintenance technicians, providing training, daily work assignments, and performance feedback.
- Conduct timely performance evaluations and address safety or conduct issues in coordination with HR.
- Foster a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement within the maintenance team.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
Maintenance Operations & Production Support
- Oversee maintenance activities on all shifts, ensuring coverage, effective scheduling, and adherence to maintenance priorities.
- Support production by minimizing equipment and tooling downtime through root cause analysis and corrective action.
- Troubleshoot and resolve mechanical and PLC-related issues.
- Coordinate and execute preventive and predictive maintenance plans, ensuring accurate documentation and evaluation.
Team Leadership & Development
- Supervise and coach maintenance technicians, providing training, daily work assignments, and performance feedback.
- Conduct timely performance evaluations and address safety or conduct issues in coordination with HR.
- Foster a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement within the maintenance team.
Project & Inventory Management
- Plan and manage maintenance projects, equipment upgrades, and installations.
- Monitor and maintain spare parts inventory; generate purchase orders as needed.
- Collaborate with vendors and contractors for equipment maintenance and installations.
Health & Safety Compliance
- Enforce all company safety policies and procedures.
- Respond promptly to safety-related work orders, hazards, and incidents.
- Conduct regular workplace safety inspections and participate in the site safety committee.
- Ensure all employees and visitors operate in a hazard-free environment.
Administrative Duties
- Manage attendance and time-off tracking for maintenance staff.
- Ensure accurate and timely documentation in the timekeeping system.
- Maintain disaster recovery plans for critical equipment and systems.
- Ensures Company policies and procedures are adhered to. Collaborates with the Department Manager and Human Resources Manager in the administration of disciplinary action, when necessary.
- Displays a positive attitude towards safety, works safely and follows all the Company's safety policies and procedures.
- Complies with all Health, Safety and Environmental standards in accordance with the Magna Employee Charter, the Occupational Health & Safety Act and the Michigan Occupational Health & Safety Act.
- Ensures all employees and visitors have a safe environment in that all hazards, unsafe actions, or unsafe conditions have been identified, corrected, and/or eliminated.
- Enforces safety rules, policies, and procedures consistently.
- Responds to and investigates all reports of injuries, accidents, illnesses, near misses and property damage immediately.
- Thoroughly trains new and transferred employees, corrects or commends employee’s health and safety performance, and addresses employee’s safety performance in scheduled performance appraisals.
- Takes an active part in the division’s safety program by performing regular workplace inspections, effectively investigates accidents/incidents promptly, and assists in meeting or exceeding the division’s safety goals.

Qualifications

Preferred Education/Certification/Licensure/Experience
- Trade school certified as an Industrial Electrician/Mechanic.
- Powdered Industrial Truck Permit and Aerial Work Permit (requires passing scores on the Powered Industrial Truck and Aerial Work training tests administered by LM Mfg Detroit).
Required Experience
- A minimum of five (5) years experience within the industrial maintenance setting.
- Minimum of 5 to 6 years of experience as a Maintenance Supervisor within the automotive manufacturing sector including production, facility, preventive maintenance and spare parts management.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Technical Skills
- Strong knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, PLC systems, and robotics.
- Experience with Allen Bradley PLC systems (RSLogix 500/5000, PanelView).
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Skilled in the use of hand, power, and shop tools (e.g., lathe, Bridgeport, band saw).
Leadership & Interpersonal Skills
- Strong communication, organizational, and documentation skills.
- Ability to lead cross-functional teams and work with all levels of staff and contractors.
- Demonstrated problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Working Conditions/Physical Abilities
Work performed in a manufacturing plant environment. Exposed to varying temperature within plant depending upon external weather conditions. Continuously exposed to airborne particles, odors, toxic or caustic chemicals, fumes and noise. Occasionally works in high precarious places (e.g. roofs, scissor lifts) and in outside weather conditions. Continuously operates hand, power and shop tools. Continuously grips/grasps, pushes/pulls, bends/stoops, crouches, crawls/kneels and stands. Frequently climbs, reaches above shoulder level, stands, and lifts and carries up to twenty–five (25) lbs. Ability to work long hours and on weekends as needed.
