Job summary

Vast is seeking a Senior System Architect, Lunar, based in Long Beach, CA, to develop end-to-end architecture for the lunar ecosystem. The role reports to the Senior VP, Lunar Programs and requires translating NASA Moon Base needs into executable requirements and interfaces.

You will work with cross-functional teams to extend Haven Demo and Vast Satellite technologies for lunar use, manage budgets, and guide design reviews and risk mitigation in a fast-paced startup environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor-level degree in a relevant engineering field.
• 6+ years in design ownership, systems integration, and test engineering, including at least 1 year in systems engineering.
• Experience owning system-level architecture, requirements, and interfaces across full lifecycle.
• Strong knowledge of spacecraft subsystems and their interactions.
• Excellent communication skills for executive and customer-facing discussions.

Responsibilities

• Define, develop, and maintain end-to-end system architecture for Lunar ecosystem.
• Translate NASA Moon Base architecture and human-rating requirements into system requirements and interfaces.
• Perform architecture trade studies to inform program decisions.
• Adapt Haven Demo/1 and Vast Satellite tech to lunar environment.
• Collaborate with internal engineering teams to decompose architecture into subsystems.
• Develop and manage system budgets (mass, power, data, thermal, consumables).
• Identify risks and mitigation strategies; support milestone reviews.
• Represent lunar architecture with external partners and support business development.
