Job summary

Vast, a leader in next-generation space infrastructure, seeks a Senior System Architect, Lunar, reporting to the Senior Vice President, Lunar Programs, to shape the architecture of Vast’s lunar ecosystem.

The role is full-time and exempt, based in Long Beach, CA, with up to 20% travel. You will own end-to-end system architecture, translate NASA Moon Base requirements, perform trade studies, and drive risk mitigation while collaborating with internal teams and external partners.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Aerospace, Systems Engineering, or related field.
• 6+ years of experience in design ownership and systems integration, with at least 1+ years in systems engineering.
• Experience owning system-level architecture, requirements, and interfaces across lifecycle.
• Strong knowledge of spacecraft subsystems and their interactions.
• Excellent communication skills to present complex trades to executives, customers, and engineers.

Responsibilities

• Define end-to-end system architecture for Vast's Lunar ecosystem across habitats, power, energy, comms, logistics, and crew systems.
• Translate NASA Moon Base architecture, mission needs, and human-rating requirements into system requirements and interfaces.
• Perform architecture trade studies to inform program decisions on design, lander compatibility, and autonomy.
• Adapt Haven Demo, Haven-1, Haven Station, and Vast Satellite technologies to the lunar environment.
• Collaborate with internal engineering teams to decompose architecture into executable subsystem designs.
