Job summary

Blythe Construction in Saluda, NC is seeking a skilled heavy equipment operator to support road, highway, and bridge projects. You will operate dozers, scrapers, loaders, and excavators to grade earth and prepare sites, following grade specifications.

The role requires safe operation, clear communication with crew, and adherence to signals. Candidates should have several years of field experience and be comfortable working outdoors in varying weather.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• Ability to understand work directions and communicate effectively with supervisors and crew.
• Understanding of signals used to signal operators of construction machinery.
• 3+ years of industry-related experience, with emphasis on roads, highways and bridges.
• Experience operating a 950 size loader or larger with shot rock near steep slopes is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Inspect equipment/machinery for safe operation and maintenance needs.
• Operate heavy equipment (dozers, scrapers, loaders, excavators, tractors, front loaders, back hoes) to excavate, move and grade earth.
• Interact with crew to align, move, and adjust equipment to conform to grade specs.
• Turn valves to control air and water output of compressors and pumps.
• Adjust controls to operate attachments (blades, buckets, scrapers, swing booms).
