Job summary

Sunrock is seeking a highly skilled Heavy Equipment Operator to join our grading and utility operations team in North Carolina. This expert role requires operating excavators, dozers, motor graders, loaders, and more with minimal supervision, performing finish and fine grading, and supporting complex sitework tasks.

You will interpret grade stakes and GPS grade control, coordinate trenching and pipe installation, mentor junior operators, and uphold OSHA/NCDOT safety standards on every jobsite.

Qualifications

• 5+ years or 10,000+ hours heavy equipment operation in grading/utility construction
• Proven finish grade and fine grade capability
• Strong elevations, slopes, blueprints, and grade control understanding
• Operate multiple equipment types at high skill level
• Valid North Carolina Driver’s License
• High-level project sequencing understanding
• Independent work with minimal supervision
• Mentor and guide other operators or laborers
• Strong communication and leadership presence
• Safety and OSHA/NCDOT compliance

Responsibilities

• Operate heavy equipment at an expert level including excavators, dozers, motor graders, loaders, skid steers, and trenching equipment
• Perform precise finish grade and fine grade work for grading, utilities, and civil construction projects
• Interpret grade stakes, GPS grade control, cut/fill requirements, and slope tolerances
• Execute trenching, backfilling, pipe installation, and complex site preparation
• Lead by example in production, quality, and safety
• Perform advanced equipment checks, troubleshooting, and basic repairs
• Mentor less experienced operators and assist foremen with on-site coordination
• Maintain compliance with OSHA/NCDOT/company policies
