Job summary

University of California, Davis is seeking a laboratory group leader to oversee drug testing activities, supervise chemists, and guide research on LC-MS and GC-MS applications. You will develop new extraction methods, validate analyses, and ensure SOPs and QA/QC practices uphold high standards.

Responsibilities include coordinating confirmation analyses, mentoring multidisciplinary teams, and ensuring timely production while adhering to regulatory requirements.

Qualifications

• Advanced degree in Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry, Pharmacology or a closely related field, or equivalent experience/training.
• Experience providing effective management and leadership in a fast-paced, high throughput laboratory.
• At least 5 years operating LC-MS or LC-MS/MS instrumentation and troubleshooting independently.
• Experience with LC-MS method development and validation in regulated labs, including QA/QC knowledge.
• Strong organizational and multitasking skills with the ability to lead teams.
• Demonstrated success mentoring multidisciplinary teams; familiarity with regulatory frameworks.

Responsibilities

• Monitor and direct daily activities of drug testing lab personnel to meet production goals.
• Coordinate assignment of test technologies including screening and confirmation analyses (GC-MS and LC-MS).
• Supervise multiple chemists and staff performing complex analytical testing procedures.
• Direct research projects for analysis of molecules in biological matrices; develop new extraction and LC-MS/GC-MS techniques.
• Develop and validate methods, update SOPs, and ensure QA/QC procedures are robust.
• Coordinate confirmation analyses including B samples to verify work of other labs.
