Job summary

Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in Livermore, CA, seeks an experienced Laser-Matter Interaction Experimentalist to lead the development of high-energy laser experiments at the OSL, part of the NIF&PS Directorate.

The role involves coordinating with laser scientists, engineers and technicians to design and evaluate a compact kJ-class spatial filter concept, manage shot time, and communicate findings to internal teams and sponsors.

Qualifications

• PhD in laser physics, optical sciences, or a related technical field.
• Advanced experience with laser diagnostics sensors and electronics.
• Proven ability to design and execute high-energy laser experiments.
• Experience analyzing laser–matter interaction data with data reduction software.
• Excellent written and verbal communication for collaboration.
• Experience mentoring team members.

Responsibilities

• Lead experimental campaigns exploring intense laser–matter interactions.
• Hands-on alignment and commissioning of laser systems and diagnostics.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams across laser systems and diagnostics.
• Prepare technical presentations and communicate updates to stakeholders.
• Document experimental campaigns and post-shot analysis reports.
• Provide technical direction for multi-year campaigns.
