Job summary

Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory is seeking experienced Optical Engineers to support optical design, modeling and analysis for high energy laser systems, diagnostics, and beam transport. This on-site role sits in the Optical Design and Engineering group within the LSEO Division, collaborating across scientists, engineers, technicians and designers.

Candidates should be proficient with CODE V/Zemax/FRED, MATLAB and Python, able to work on complex problems, and eligible for a U.S.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Optical Engineering, Physics, or related field.
• Comprehensive knowledge of CODE V, Zemax, FRED, and OSLO for optical design and analysis.
• Strong understanding of geometrical optics, lens design, imaging, and optical tolerancing.

Responsibilities

• Design and model complex optical systems including high energy lasers, diagnostics, and beam transport.
• Perform tolerancing, error budgeting, and performance analyses for optical systems and subsystems.
• Develop and document optical specifications, performance, fabrication, inspection, and acceptance criteria.
• Diagnose optical issues and present results to multidisciplinary teams.
