Job summary

Prince William County Government seeks an experienced Landfill Assistant Superintendent at the Municipal Sanitary Landfill in Manassas, VA. You will oversee daily operations, supervise up to 12 staff, and ensure regulatory compliance with permits, drawings, and safety standards.

The role requires a DPOR Class II Waste Management Facility Operator license (or ability to obtain within 8 months), a valid driver's license, and readiness for after-hours emergencies.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED is required.
• Minimum five (5) years of full-time related experience in active solid waste landfilling operations or construction.
• Special license: DPOR Class II Waste Management Facility Operator or ability to obtain within 8 months.
• Valid driver’s license is required to operate County vehicles.
• Essential service position; readiness for after-hours emergencies and safety protocols.
• Pre-employment physical examination is required.

Responsibilities

• Oversee daily operations of the active and closed landfill areas in compliance with permits and drawings.
• Directly supervise up to 12 employees; hire, train, evaluate, and mentor staff.
• Coordinate maintenance and replacement of facilities, vehicles, and equipment.
• Interacting with staff, vendors, and the public to resolve issues professionally.
• Analyze data to improve efficiency, safety, and customer service.
