Job summary

Nikon SLM Solutions is seeking a Principal Application Engineer to act as the technical authority for complex metal additive manufacturing projects and strategic customer engagements.

The role spans DfAM through qualification and production, partnering with customers to develop manufacturable L-PBF solutions, optimize processes, and advance best practices across the organization. Targeted for leadership in aerospace, defense, medical, and energy sectors.

Qualifications

• Master's or Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• Extensive hands-on experience with Laser Powder Bed Fusion (L-PBF) metal additive manufacturing.
• Experience with regulated industries such as aerospace, defense, medical, energy, or industrial manufacturing.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the senior technical lead for customer application projects and FAT/qualification activities.
• Translate application requirements into manufacturable L-PBF solutions for strategic customers.
• Provide technical leadership across the complete L-PBF process from DfAM to final part release.
• Evaluate manufacturability and recommend design improvements leveraging additive manufacturing.
• Support parameter development for new materials and geometries.
• Lead investigations into build failures and quality concerns with root cause analyses.
• Analyze machine data, CT scans, and qualification reports to identify process improvements.
• Develop application engineering best practices, guidelines, and templates.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure regulatory-compliant performance.
