Job summary

Willoughby facility is seeking a dependable cook to manage the kitchen in the absence of the Dietary Supervisor. The cook will maintain a safe, sanitary cooking area, prepare meals in large quantities, and follow prepared menus and portion guides.

Duties include recording food temperatures, preparing special diets, assisting with serving meals, and supervising dietary staff when needed. Must have a high school diploma and hospital or long-term care cooking experience, plus ServSafe certification.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • At least 1 year of cook experience in a hospital or long-term care facility.
  • Must obtain and maintain ServSafe Certificate.
  • Ability to read technical procedures and follow recipes.
  • Ability to interpret instructions and work with managers and staff.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain kitchen and cooking area in a safe, orderly, clean and sanitary manner.
  • Ability to prepare tasteful meals and to cook a variety of foods in large quantities.
  • Follow prepared menus and portion control guides; prepare special diets accurately.
  • Record food temperatures and prepare pureed foods; work with dietary staff as needed.
  • Assist with serving meals and maintain cleanliness of serving areas.
  • Report resident care concerns to Administrator/Director of Nurses; participate in training of dietary staff.
  • Supervise dietary staff in the absence of the Dietary Supervisor; ensure cleaning schedules are followed.
