Clemson University in Seneca, SC seeks an Insulation Technician to install and maintain insulation on campus utility and HVAC systems. You will train junior staff and ensure adherence to safety and OSHA guidelines while supporting preventative maintenance programs.
Responsibilities include insulation of piping and equipment, handling mastics, reading blueprints, and estimating costs and materials for projects. This role requires hands-on mechanical aptitude and teamwork.
Performs work as insulator requiring advanced levels of professional skill. Performs installation, repair and preventative maintenance of insulation to campus main utility systems and associated air conditioning refrigeration systems. Provides training and mentorship to less experienced employees.
15% - Training and Mentorship: Leads, guides, and/or trains others in applicable procedures and techniques. Completes the required training and testing to maintain applicable licensing. 10% - Safety: Promotes a safe workplace and safe work practices. Complies with all applicable OSHA safety mandates and enforcement of University LOTO & PPE policy. Complies with all EPA/DHEC rules. Promotes positive and productive relationships within and between shops. Removes and disposes of insulation and cleans tools. Maintains a clean and safe work environment. 50% - Insulation: Insulates and removes (when needed) chilled water piping and equipment, hot water piping, steam piping, condensate piping, refrigeration piping, duct work and associated mechanical equipment. Performs insulation using several material types 25% - Applications and Mastics: Understands applications and applies various appropriate mastics to insulation systems. Operates saws, drills, pin-welder and related hand tools. Builds construction-type scaffolding. Reads, modifies and recommend modifications of blueprints. Estimates cost, time and materials of insulation projects.

Expected Salary Range - Salary is dependent upon several factors including, but not limited to, a candidate's previous experience, knowledge, skills and performance in accordance with Clemson's compensation guidelines.
Emergency Response - In the event of an emergency closure or modified operations, this position is required to respond in order to provide the University's initial response to the emergency situation, including the execution of mission essential functions. Some positions in this category may be required to work remotely or be on call.
