Job summary

AFRY USA is seeking an Instrumentation & Controls Engineer to lead I&C deliverables on multi‑discipline projects. You will specify instrumentation, control systems, and safety controls, and produce detailed drawings, narratives, and construction packages while supporting field data collection and startup.

The role includes coordinating with clients and project teams, estimating engineering effort, and ensuring schedules are met, with travel to customer sites (10–15%).

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field required.
• Preferred Professional Engineering registration or ability to obtain.
• Minimum of 10 years of experience with process instrumentation in the Pulp and Paper industry preferred; Oil & Gas or Chemical industry also acceptable.
• Proficiency using Microsoft Office suite of applications.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Self-motivated and comfortable working in a team environment.
• Ability to travel to customer sites (10-15% travel).

Responsibilities

• Discipline Lead on multi-discipline projects responsible for I&C deliverables, estimating engineering effort, meeting project schedule, and communication with clients and project team.
• Study cost estimates for instrumentation and control systems.
• Provide input into P&ID’s.
• Specify control system components for DCS and PLC systems.
• Specify instrumentation for flow, pressure, level, temperature, and analytical measurement.
• Collaborate with process engineers and vendors to size and specify control valves.
• Generate Loop Diagrams and Junction Box Wiring Diagrams.
• Develop project lists: Instrument Index, I/O List, Panel List, Cable List.
• Create Plan Drawings identifying locations of valves, instrumentation, panels, junction boxes, and cable trays.
• Coordinate with piping design to ensure proper installation of valves and instrumentation.
• Develop E-Stop safety control design using safety relays and safety PLCs.
• Review vendor equipment documentation for construction packages.
• Write Loop Control Narratives for programming.
• Prepare bid, construction, and demo packages for contractors.
• Visit customer sites to gather field data for detailed design.
• Provide field support during construction, commissioning and startup.
