Job summary

Environmental Solutions & Innovations, Inc. (ESI) seeks a Lead Hydrologist to support the U.S. Forest Service on Nantahala and Pisgah National Forests in North Carolina.

The role focuses on assessing, designing, and implementing disaster recovery, restoration, and resiliency projects in collaboration with Forest Service staff, partners, and contractors. Qualifications

• Master's degree in hydrology or related discipline or equivalent education.
• 5+ years of technical work in forest hydrology and watershed management.
• 3+ years in planning, designing watershed projects, cost estimates and specs.
• Strong understanding of field hydrology, stream rehab design criteria, and watershed function.
• Familiarity with construction methods, water quality practices, and QA.
• Ability to interpret plans, identify deficiencies, and prepare technical reports.
• Proficiency with GIS data and MS Office; willing to travel frequently.

Responsibilities

• Assess streams, floodplains, soils, and landscapes for restoration needs.
• Lead watershed improvement implementations from small gradings to stream restoration.
• Inspect construction per plans and specs during Forest Service projects.
• Prepare/review restoration designs, cost estimates, specs, and construction docs.
• Coordinate with Forest Service staff, partners, and contractors on designs, schedules, and review.
• Support planning, permitting, contract prep, and review of partner invoices.
