Job summary

Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta is seeking an experienced Coding Department Manager to lead hospital and physician practice coding operations across multiple facilities. The role emphasizes accuracy, timely coding, audits, and regulatory compliance.

You will mentor staff, implement education programs, coordinate with IT for code updates, and drive performance improvements while partnering with the Director of HIS & Coding.

Qualifications

• Proven knowledge base in complete and accurate clinical documentation across healthcare settings.
• Experience with ICD-10-CM/PCS, CPT, and Evaluation & Management coding.
• Familiarity with MS-DRG and Ambulatory Payment Classification (APC) reimbursement systems.
• Ability to implement regulatory standards including NCCI and Medically Unlikely Event (MUE).

Responsibilities

• Manages the daily operations of the Hospital Coding Department to promote steady workflow and data integrity.
• Manages the daily operations of the Physician Practice Coding Department to promote steady workflow and data integrity.
• Research coding questions and provide coder feedback.
• Ensures timely correction of coding errors and edits.
• Ensures coding audits are performed concurrently and that the areas being audited are updated in conjunction with the department policies.
• Oversees monitoring of aging and DNB accounts to ensure timely coding and performance within quality benchmarks.
• Conducts regular audits and coordinates monitoring of coding accuracy, productivity, and documentation.
• Provides feedback and coordinates focused educational programs regarding coding best practices to Coding staff.
• Interviews, hires and trains employees; manages performance; resolves issues; drives quality control.
• Identifies cost savings and opportunities for process improvements within the Coding department.
