Job summary

Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) is seeking a Highway Maintenance Worker 3 – Lead to head the Area 1 Work Zone Traffic Control Team. You will lead a crew, operate highway equipment, and set up/maintain traffic control to keep roadways safe for the traveling public.

The role requires a valid CDL Class A with DOT medical certificate, a traffic control/flagging card, and First Aid certification.

Qualifications

  • Must demonstrate safety leadership and identify hazards in high-risk environments.
  • Ability to lead and coordinate work of others and mentor team members.
  • Experience in roadway maintenance activities including snow/ice control and traffic control.
  • Commitment to learning and growth in a public-service role.
  • Strong service orientation to meet the needs of others.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate equipment and personnel with fellow crew leaders.
  • Prepare Third-Party Damage estimates and document work.
  • Enter maintenance activities into HATS, WZDB, TSMS; review records for accuracy.
  • Provide traffic control and assist in pavement repair.
  • Perform drainage and sign maintenance and repair tasks.
  • Serve as traffic control lead during emergencies and maintenance work.
