Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED and six years of equipment operation experience.
  • Valid North Carolina Class A CDL with Tanker endorsement or the ability to obtain within 360 days of hire.
  • Pre-employment drug testing and criminal history check required.
  • Must be 21 years of age and able to operate a motor vehicle.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a highway maintenance crew on state roads.
  • Perform preventive maintenance, repair and construction tasks.
  • Operate heavy equipment including backhoe, tandem dump truck, motor grader, front end loader, skid steer and forklift.
  • Respond to emergencies such as traffic incidents, snow and ice removal.
  • Transport inmates for work detail as required.
