Job summary

North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) seeks a Transportation Worker II in Buncombe County to perform highway maintenance, repair, and construction tasks on state roads. You will operate equipment, assist with pipe installation and snow/ice removal, and help keep roadways safe and functional.

You must have a high school diploma or GED with 3 years of equipment experience; a valid NC driver’s license is required or CDL can be obtained within 360 days.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED plus 3 years of equipment operation experience.
  • Valid NC driver's license or ability to obtain CDL within 360 days of hire.
  • Pre-employment drug testing required.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and repair state-maintained roads in Buncombe County.
  • Operate a variety of equipment including asphalt distributor, patch truck, tandem dump truck, skid steer, and backhoe.
  • Set up work zones and traffic control devices; respond to emergencies during normal and night shifts.
  • Monitor and guide other transportation workers; ensure compliance with safety policies.
