Job summary

The South Carolina Department of Transportation is seeking a hands-on Maintenance Worker to perform a wide range of road and bridge maintenance tasks on the state highway system. Under supervision, you will operate motor graders, backhoes, dozers, excavators, and other equipment while following safety protocols.

You will lead a county Special Project/Drainage/Vegetation Management Crew, plan daily work with the Crew Foreman, and ensure accurate records in HMMS and EAMS.

Qualifications

• Two years of related work experience (or approved equivalence).
• Requires a valid motor vehicle operator’s license.
• CDL Class A within six months of placement.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and preserve roads and bridges on the state highway system.
• Operate heavy equipment (grader, backhoe, dozer, excavators, slope mower) for construction and maintenance.
• Lead a county Special Project/Drainage/Vegetation Management Crew; schedule and supervise daily work.
• Record work and materials in HMMS/EAMS and review maintenance requests.
• Coordinate traffic control and safety practices in work zones.
• Perform safety inspections and monitor equipment maintenance.
