Job summary

Blue Origin LLC's Honeybee Robotics Exploration Systems division seeks an Electrical Engineer at our Altadena, CA location to lead avionics design and hardware development for planetary exploration instruments.

The role interfaces with mechanical, software, and control engineering through full lifecycle from concept to flight-ready hardware, with emphasis on safety, quality, and collaboration.

Qualifications

  • BS in Electrical or Computer Engineering or related field.
  • 9+ years developing and testing complex hardware across the product lifecycle.
  • 4+ years in aerospace.
  • Expert with common electrical lab equipment.
  • Experience in Power Electronics, Motor Control, Embedded Systems, or Sensor/Instrumentation.
  • Familiarity with harness design and manufacturing.
  • PCB layout with controlled impedances and high-reliability materials.
  • Ability to work independently on rapid development programs.
  • Experience with Worst-case Circuit analysis, Spice, and FMEA.
  • Strong understanding of electronics product development and systems integration.
  • Familiarity with complex computational devices to monitor sensors and drive actuators.
  • Highly organized, safety- and quality-conscious, with strong communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a technical leader within the organization.
  • Oversee a small team of engineers, mentor juniors, and refine standardized processes.
  • Design avionics systems, define interfaces and PCB functions.
  • Design, manufacture, and checkout high-reliability PCBs for avionics.
  • Create harness design and assembly instructions for high-reliability applications.
  • Design and document EGSE for avionics development.
  • Define and execute tests across labs and vendors.
  • Apply technical expertise across the product lifecycle and verification planning.
