Job summary

C.W. Matthews Contracting Co., Inc in Georgia is seeking an experienced Heavy Highway Superintendent to lead complex transportation and roadway construction projects across the state.

You will oversee daily field operations, manage crews and subcontractors, read plans, ensure safety and schedule adherence, and coordinate with project managers, engineers, and inspectors. GDOT projects background preferred.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of Heavy Highway Superintendent experience (preferred).
• Proven experience managing DOT highway projects.
• Strong understanding of grading, drainage, concrete, paving, utilities, and traffic control.
• Ability to read and interpret construction plans and specifications.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Strong knowledge of OSHA safety standards OSHA 30 Hour certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead all daily field operations on heavy highway and roadway construction projects.
• Manage crews, subcontractors, and equipment to maximize productivity.
• Ensure projects meet schedule, budget, quality, and safety expectations.
• Professional coordination with Project Managers, Engineers, Surveyors, and project inspectors.
• Review and interpret construction plans, specifications, and contract documents.
• Plan work activities, manpower, equipment, and material needs.
• Conduct daily safety meetings and promote a culture of safety.
• Resolve field issues quickly while maintaining production goals.
• Use of computer to maintain project documentation, daily reports, and production/quantity tracking.
