Job summary

City of Whittier is seeking a Senior Landfill Equipment Operator to lead and participate in heavy equipment operations at the city landfill. The role includes supervising crews, planning work, and ensuring safety and compliance.

You will perform preventive maintenance, maintain records, and provide training and guidance to staff while coordinating with city departments. This is a hands-on, on-site leadership position with exposure to industrial hazards and outdoor conditions.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; three years of progressively responsible heavy equipment operation experience.
• Valid Class B California driver's license and ability to obtain DL 51A health certification.
• Knowledge of safety practices and ability to supervise crews in a landfill setting.

Responsibilities

• Leads and participates in operation of heavy equipment, plans, assigns, and evaluates work of subordinates.
• Oversees equipment operator crews and ensures tasks meet established standards and schedules.
• Performs routine inspection, maintenance, and record keeping for equipment and supplies.
• Provides training and disciplinary input as required; maintains positive relationships with stakeholders.
• Establishes and maintains safety and compliance with city and regulatory requirements.
