Job summary

CTS Excavations, a growing heavy civil contractor in Alabama, seeks an experienced Head Mechanic / Diesel Mechanic to lead the fleet maintenance on excavators, trucks and trailers. You will diagnose, repair, and perform preventive maintenance to maximize uptime and safety.

The ideal candidate has 5+ years on diesel/heavy equipment, strong hydraulic/electrical knowledge, and the ability to work independently on active projects. This on-site role includes overtime and field dispatch as needed.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of experience as a diesel/ heavy equipment mechanic.
• Experience repairing and maintaining heavy construction equipment.
• Ability to diagnose diesel engines and heavy equipment issues.
• Knowledge of hydraulic, electrical, mechanical and diesel systems.
• Experience with preventive maintenance and repairs.

Responsibilities

• Provide mechanical leadership to other technicians and maintenance staff.
• Establish and maintain preventive maintenance schedules.
• Prioritize repairs based on safety and operational needs.
• Coordinate parts, vendors, and outside repairs when needed.
• Track downtime and identify opportunities to improve fleet reliability.
• Train and assist less-experienced mechanics when appropriate.
• Maintain clear communication with operators and project leadership.
