Job summary

Ram Pavement is looking for an experienced Head Mechanic in Charlotte, NC, to oversee the maintenance and performance of our heavy equipment fleet. This role requires advanced mechanical knowledge and strong leadership skills to ensure that machinery operates safely and efficiently.

The ideal candidate will have at least 5 years of mechanical experience, be proficient in diesel engines, hydraulics, and electrical systems, and possess problem-solving skills. A competitive pay and benefits package is offered.

Job Summary: We are seeking an experienced and dependable Head Mechanic to oversee the maintenance, repair, and performance of our heavy equipment fleet. This role requires advanced mechanical knowledge, strong leadership skills, and hands-on experience with hydraulics, welding, and diagnostic systems. The ideal candidate will ensure that all machinery operates safely and efficiently while managing shop operations and supporting field crews.

Key Responsibilities

• Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair heavy equipment, including loaders, pavers, graders, excavators, rollers, and trucks
• Perform preventative maintenance and inspections on all fleet equipment
• Oversee hydraulic system repairs, including hoses, cylinders, pumps, and valves
• Conduct welding and fabrication repairs as needed
• Manage and lead mechanics and maintenance staff
• Maintain accurate service records, repair logs, and parts inventory
• Coordinate equipment repairs to minimize downtime
• Ensure compliance with all safety regulations and company standards
• Order parts, tools, and shop supplies as necessary
• Assist with equipment scheduling and long-term maintenance planning

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of heavy equipment mechanical experience
• Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, and welding/fabrication
• Previous supervisory or leadership experience preferred
• Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and schematics
• CDL preferred but not required
• Strong problem-solving and organizational skills
• Ability to work in shop and field environments
• Valid driver's license required

Preferred Skills

• Experience with asphalt, paving, or construction equipment
• Certifications in welding, hydraulics, or diesel technology
• Familiarity with computerized diagnostic equipment

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift heavy parts and tools
• Frequent standing, bending, climbing, and working outdoors
• Capability to work in various weather conditions
