Job summary

Metra is seeking a Supervisor, Work Equipment, to oversee daily activities of mechanics responsible for repair and maintenance of the department's work equipment. You will ensure safety, timeliness, and quality, and guide crews in complex projects.

Reporting to the Manager, Work Equipment, you will manage scheduling, parts distribution, and training needs while upholding Metra safety standards and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications

• Journeyman certification or equivalent two years in heavy equipment repair.
• Five years of experience in heavy equipment repair.
• Knowledge of materials, tools, and equipment for automotive/heavy equipment maintenance.
• Knowledge of safety standards and regulatory requirements.
• Ability to train and identify training needs.
• Analytical skills and ability to read equipment blueprints/diagrams.
• Strong communication skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft 365.
• Ability to adapt to critical situations.
• Ability to plan and prepare daily tasks.

Responsibilities

• Assign, review, and evaluate the work of mechanics in repairing and maintaining department work equipment.
• Ensure repairs are completed safely, timely, and to quality standards.
• Provide guidance and assistance in completing repairs as needed.
• Receive and review parts requests for completeness and correctness.
• Troubleshoot difficult repair projects and document procedures.
• Prepare and maintain equipment maintenance schedules and parts records.
• Conduct monthly safety meetings and explain maintenance policies.
• Approve time off, coordinate staff schedules, and ensure policy compliance.
• Make staffing, performance, and disciplinary recommendations as needed.
• Promote safe work practices and maintain a safe work environment.
• Work under variable environmental conditions and be subject to random drug/alcohol testing.
• Perform other related duties to meet organizational needs.
