Job summary

Confidential Heavy Civil Contractor in Virginia seeks a Project Manager to lead highway, road, and bridge work from planning through closeout. You’ll partner with field leadership, engineers, agencies, and subcontractors to deliver on time and on budget with a self-perform team.

The role requires 5–10+ years in heavy civil PM, strong DOT/VDOT background, and expertise in cost control, scheduling, and change orders. OSHA 30 preferred.

Qualifications

• 5–10+ years managing heavy/highway, road, or bridge civil construction projects.
• Proven track record on medium-to-large heavy civil projects as PM.
• Strong DOT/VDOT, roadway, bridge, or utility background.
• Strong cost control, scheduling, contract, and change-order experience.
• Ability to manage owners, agencies, subcontractors, vendors, and internal teams.
• Bachelor’s in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field.
• OSHA 30 preferred.
• HeavyJob, Bluebeam, and Primavera P6 experience a plus.

Responsibilities

• Lead heavy highway, road, and bridge projects from planning through closeout.
• Own schedule, budget, cost control, forecasting, change orders, documentation, and closeout.
• Protect projected margins with accurate cost and income projections.
• Serve as main project contact for owners, agencies, subcontractors, and vendors.
• Lead field supervision and project engineering teams; assign roles and responsibilities.
• Identify project risks early and drive preventative solutions.
• Maintain project contract changes, documentation, and owner communications.
• Oversee quality control against engineering principles and standards.
• Maintain safety, quality, and production culture on site.
• Issue subcontracts and purchase orders; manage subcontractor performance.
• Run weekly project meetings and report performance to leadership.
• Submit payment requisitions accurately and timely.
