Job description

This position is located in the Nutrition and Food Division at the Clement J. Zablocki Medical Center, Milwaukee, WI (695) - a Level 1a Complexity VHA Facility. To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 09/24/2026.

You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below:

• Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-5 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Experience where you applied knowledge of nutrition screening process; programs and systems used to manage patient diet orders and preferences; skill in conducting diet education to selected groups of patients and individuals; ability to work collaboratively with patients and coworkers to provide nutrition care. OR,
• Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have successfully completed one-half year of graduate education (9 semester hours or equivalent), or an internship in course matter with a major that included courses directly related to the work of the Health Technician position. This education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university. Note: You must submit a copy of your transcript (unofficial or official) or a course listing that identifies for each course completed: the college or university, semester or quarter hours earned, grade, and grade-point average received. Education cannot be credited without documentation. OR,
• Combination: Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. You must have an combination of specialized experience and education (beyond the second year after high school) and specialized experience, as listed above. The education portion must include courses directly related to the work of the position (i.e. nutrition, dietary therapy, food and nutrition science, food service systems management, etc.). This education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university. NOTE: Your experience must be documented in your resume and transcripts are required..
