Job summary

Responsibilities

• Resolve information technology issues related to integration of VISTA, Get Well Network/Touch Tone Dining and N&FS Systems.
• Develop and update nutrient database on nutrition analysis of menu items served, update menu/recipe changes in the food service system.
• Consult with COTS contractor when unable to resolve issues; troubleshoot and resolve all electronic or paper menu issues.
• Consult with clinical nutrition staff to resolve tray ticket issues with complex diets; provide training and orientation for NCC staff; serve as NCC liaison between Veterans, multidisciplinary healthcare staff and N&FS staff; participate in performance improvement activities with data collection and reporting; handle patient problems and complaints related to N&FS; ensure regulatory compliance.

Job description

This position is located in the Nutrition and Food Service (N&FS) of the VA Medical Center in Salt Lake City, Utah, serving as a Nutrition Communication Center (NCC) Coordinator and works with N&FS information systems. The NCC Coordinator is responsible for maintaining the systems and resolving issues.

To qualify for this position

Applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 09/29/2026. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-6 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-5. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Individual Occupational Requirements Specialized Experience (for positions at GS-4 and above): Positions in this series range widely in type and include support duties to medical or health personnel such as audiologists, speech pathologists, medical officers, and optometrists. Therefore, technician experience is experience that required application of the knowledge, methods, and techniques of the position to be filled. In addition to the Individual Occupational Requirements the following specialized experience is required as well: GS-6 Grade Level: One year of specialized experience (equivalent to the GS-5 grade level in the federal service; experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSA's) and other characteristics to perform successfully the duties o the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization.

Specialized Experience Includes:

• resolve information technology issues related to integration of VISTA, Get Well Network/Touch Tone Dining and N&FS Systems
• develop and update nutrient database on nutrition analysis of menu items served, make menu/recipe changes and all necessary updates in food service system (any commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) program)
• consult with COTS contractor when unable to resolve issues internally, troubleshoot an resolve all electronic or paper menu issues
• consult with clinical nutrition staff to resolve tray ticket issues with complex diets; provide training and orientation for all N&FS employees, serve as NCC liaison between Veterans, multidisciplinary healthcare staff and N&FS staff, participate in performance improvement activities by assisting in the development of indicators and monitors, data collection and analysis, corrective actions and preparation of reports, handles patient problems and complaints related to N&FS as appropriate, ensure compliance with all regulatory agency standards, including state, federal and Joint Commission.

Preferred Experience: Computrition System and the SLC VHA.
