Job summary

The City of Turlock is seeking an Accountant III to perform professional accounting duties, ensure GAAP compliance, and prepare financial reports for internal and external customers. The role involves leading and guiding others, reviewing financial records for accuracy, and assisting in the City’s reporting requirements to federal, state, and county agencies.

Supervision is provided by the Principal Accountant and the Finance Director.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business administration, economics or related field.
• Two years of professional journey-level accounting experience.
• Valid California driver’s license may be required.

Responsibilities

• Perform complex accounting duties for city-wide and multi-department records.
• Prepare financial statements and reports for federal, state and local agencies.
• Post, balance, and reconcile the General Ledger and subsidiary accounts; perform depreciation calculations.
• Provide assistance to outside auditors and respond to inquiries.
• Assist in monitoring accounts and researching transactions to resolve problems.
