Job summary

The City of Albany seeks a Senior Accountant to serve as a senior technical resource in the Finance Department, providing advanced accounting expertise and lead support across city-wide operations, including financial reporting, audits, grant compliance, ERP system administration, and process improvement.

Under the Accounting Manager, you will apply governmental accounting knowledge and sound judgment to complex matters, mentor staff, and contribute to the stewardship of public resources.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business administration or management with four years of governmental accounting experience.
• Knowledge of funded grants, GAAP and GASB standards is required; experience with internal controls.
• Experience with ERP systems and financial reporting processes is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead journal entries and month-end close activities; monitor general ledger accuracy.
• Coordinate audits and respond to auditor inquiries; prepare schedules and reporting.
• Support grant compliance and federal/state reporting; assist with ACFR preparation as needed.
• Provide ERP system administration support and process improvements across City finances.
