Job summary

The Metropolitan Council seeks a Senior Accountant to serve as a primary accountant for divisional departments, handling complex accounting tasks and ensuring adherence to GAAP. The role reports to the Finance Department and supports grants, capital projects, and internal controls across the organization.

Responsibilities include generating financial reports, journal entries, grant monitoring, and assisting audits.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Accounting, Finance or closely related field.
• Experience with GAAP and financial reporting.
• Familiarity with grant accounting and federal/state compliance.

Responsibilities

• Run reports in financial systems and reconcile balances.
• Prepare journal entries for monthly accruals and correct postings.
• Consolidate expenses and prepare draws for federal disbursement.
• Record revenue for accounts payable and payroll activity.
• Maintain grant databases and update changes.
• Monitor expenditures and review monthly reports with management.
• Develop and implement internal procedures and controls.
• Monitor grants and project reporting for compliance with laws.
• Train coworkers on tasks and procedures to maintain performance.
• Prepare documents for audits in accordance with GAAP.
