Job summary

Tacoma Public Schools in Tacoma is seeking a dedicated sports program supervisor to manage coaching staff and athletic activities for seasonal teams. The role emphasizes safe, fair coaching and clear communication with students and families.

You will plan practices, monitor athlete development, and ensure compliance with WIAA rules. The position supports program budgets, equipment management, and coordination with the athletic director to deliver a high-quality, inclusive school athletics

Qualifications

• Graduation from high school or equivalent and a minimum of three years of experience as an assistant coach.
• Must be at least 21 years of age (WIAA regulation).
• First Aid Certificate, CPR card and AED training are required.
• Red Cross Safety Training or Lifeguard certification is also required for swimming, diving and water polo coaches.
• Knowledge of building, Tacoma School District, and WIAA policies, regulations, procedures and guidelines.

Responsibilities

• Supervises assistant coaches and student athletes to promote effective student learning through participation in athletic activities.
• Plans, develops and implements an effective program for the particular sport to prepare athletes both physically and mentally to participate with confidence.
• Organizes practice sessions that are stimulating and instructive to develop athletes’ greatest potential.
• Coordinates facility use with athletic director and follows budgeting and equipment procedures.
• Informs students and parents about eligibility rules and sport-specific regulations.
• Maintains equipment records, issues letters/awards, and follows safety procedures.
• Assists the athletic director in achieving program objectives and coordinating transportation.
