Job summary

Tacoma Public Schools is seeking an experienced high school athletics coach to lead program development and athlete training. You will supervise assistant coaches, plan practices, and ensure adherence to district and WIAA rules while promoting safe, ethical competition.

The role requires a high school diploma with 3+ years of coaching, and applicable First Aid/CPR/AED credentials. The position is seasonal with school year alignment and community engagement responsibilities.

Qualifications

• Graduation from high school or equivalent and a minimum of three years of experience as an assistant coach.
• Must be at least 21 years of age (WIAA regulation).
• First Aid, CPR and AED training required; lifeguard or safety training may be required for some sports.

Responsibilities

• Supervise assistant coaches and student athletes to promote learning.
• Plan and implement sport programs with safety and disciplinary measures.
• Organize practice sessions and develop skill-building activities.
• Coordinate facility use with athletic director and budget procedures.
• Explain eligibility rules to students and parents; enforce regulations.
• Maintain equipment records and ensure timely return of gear.
• Provide letters and awards per district regulations.
