Job summary

New York State Center for Recruitment & Public Service is seeking a General Mechanic to perform journey-level maintenance across building, electrical, plumbing and mechanical systems at DMNA facilities. The role requires reading plans, supervising others when needed, and maintaining safety standards in diverse conditions.

Incumbents work with minimal supervision, collaborate across trades, and may travel to other DMNA facilities.

Qualifications

Four years of full-time experience in a trade under a skilled journey-level position or apprenticeship training substituted year-for-year.
Must be at least 18 years old with a high school diploma or GED and English literacy.
Valid driver's license to operate a motor vehicle in New York; ability to travel to other facilities as needed.
Ability to read and interpret plans, diagrams, blueprints and specifications.
Must be able to work outside in varying temperatures and inclement weather.

Responsibilities

Perform general maintenance and repairs across multiple trades.
Design, plan, lay out and complete a variety of general trades projects from drawings or verbal instructions.
Supervise maintenance and repair work as needed and ensure safety and regulatory compliance.
Assist in preparing and maintaining materials lists and inventory for projects.
Use computer software and databases to maintain facility operations information (e.g., MS Office, SFS, SLMS).
