Job summary

Sumitomo Electric seeks a Technical Specialist, Functional Safety Engineer in Southfield, MI on a contract basis. The role requires hands-on ISO 26262 experience within automotive OEM/Tier 1 environments and a proactive, results-driven approach.

You will lead safety work products, review hazard analyses and safety concepts, develop requirements, and collaborate with hardware, software, design and validation teams to ensure safe, compliant vehicle systems.

Qualifications

Extensive ISO 26262 knowledge and experience delivering major work products of a functional safety program.
1+ year of SOTIF analysis experience and related work products.
Proven track record delivering functional safety analyses that improve safety of systems or products.
Experience supporting external/third-party reviews of functional safety work products.
Understanding of safety responsibilities between supplier and OEM and ability to articulate issues and solutions.
Experience with functional safety tools and requirements management tools.
Advocate for safety across hardware and software development.
Excellent writing, verbal and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

Lead development of functional safety system requirements and decomposition for automotive systems.
Review and approve HARA, Functional Safety Requirements, Technical Safety Requirements, validation tests.
Contribute to architecture definitions from a functional safety perspective.
Review and approve FS documents for suppliers and external partners.
Lead development of FS processes and tools.
Oversee the program FS readiness process and metrics.
