Job summary

FieldAI in Irvine is seeking a Lead Functional Safety Engineer to oversee systems-level design, integration, and validation for our wheeled robotic platforms across federal and commercial programs.

You will design and deploy a supervised safety system with remote E-Stops and indicators, configure PLCs and safety hardware, and guide the transition to a scalable, non-line-of-sight autonomy safety architecture.

Qualifications

• BS or MS in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Computer Engineering, or a related field with significant industry experience.
• Hands-on expertise configuring, programming, and debugging Safety PLCs.
• Experience selecting and integrating hardware safety components such as remote E-Stops and safeties.
• Ability to collaborate with electrical and software engineers for safe handoffs.

Responsibilities

• Design, deploy, and validate a supervised safety system with remote E-Stops and indicators.
• Lead non-line-of-sight autonomous safety architecture transition.
• Configure PLCs, wiring, and hardware safety components for field robots.
• Drive safety milestones and mentor future safety engineers.
