Job summary

Field AI in Irvine, CA is seeking a Lead Functional Safety Engineer to own risk-aware safety for autonomous UGV platforms. You will design supervised safety systems, configure Safety PLCs, and help deploy non-line-of-sight safety architectures for real-world construction projects.

This onsite role combines hands-on engineering with leadership, cross‑functional collaboration, and a clear path to build and mentor a dedicated safety team as our robotics programs scale.

Qualifications

• BS or MS in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Computer Engineering, or related field.
• Hands-on experience configuring, programming, and debugging Safety PLCs.
• Experience wiring/harness design and safety hardware integration.
• Ability to lead and mentor engineers in safety domains.

Responsibilities

• Architect functional safety systems for UGV platforms in real-world environments.
• Design supervised safety systems with remote E‑Stops and indicator lighting.
• Configure Safety PLCs, safety lidars, and related hardware components.
• Develop safe transitions between operator control and autonomy.
• Deploy, verify, and validate safety systems on field robots.
• Lead technical strategy and scale the safety team in the future.
