Job summary

Agility Robotics seeks a Principal Robotics Functional Safety Engineer to lead safety strategy across architecture to deployment for mobile humanoid platforms. You will collaborate with hardware, software, and controls teams to embed safety in every phase and to ensure compliance during customer deployments.

You will mentor safety engineers, coordinate with vendors, and help shape the safety roadmap for multiple robot platforms, ensuring robust risk reduction and regulatory alignment.

Qualifications

• 12+ years in robotics or safety-critical engineering with 7+ years in functional safety.
• Proven expertise in risk reduction methods and hierarchy of controls.
• Familiarity with ISO 13849, IEC 61508, and related safety lifecycles.
• Experience with ANSI/RIA R15.08 and ISO 10218 safety standards.
• Experience managing third-party vendors or labs for V&V.

Responsibilities

• Lead functional safety efforts from concept through deployment, including compliance with applicable standards.
• Drive architecture-level safety decisions across current and next-generation robotic platforms.
• Create and maintain safety deliverables: risk assessments, SRS, FMEDA, SISTEMA analyses, validation plans, safety cases.
• Collaborate to define, communicate, and validate safety requirements for hardware, embedded software, and control systems.
• Support customer deployments through remote collaboration and on-site visits, ensuring safe integration.
• Oversee third-party vendors and labs for verification and validation activities and CE marking support.
• Coordinate with compliance on electrical safety, hazardous materials, and environmental/regulatory requirements.
• Help design and validate functional safety architecture for AI/ML features within safety limits.
• Mentor engineers and shape safety strategy across programs.
