Job summary

PACCAR Electronics is seeking a Functional Safety Lead Engineer in Lewisville, TX to guide ISO 26262 activities across Kenworth and Peterbilt platforms. You will plan, coordinate, and drive safety work products, and provide technical leadership on safety cases and compliance evidence.

You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, suppliers, and program managers to deliver FS deliverables on schedule, while pursuing continuous improvement and aligning safety practices globally.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related technical field.
• 7+ years engineering experience, including 3+ years supporting Functional Safety development.
• Strong working experience of ISO 26262 and the automotive safety lifecycle.
• Experience leading Functional Safety work products, including IDEF, HARA, FSC, TSC, and safety requirements.
• Experience creating Functional Safety Plans and managing Functional Safety deliverables throughout a project lifecycle.
• Experience using requirements and workflow management tools such as IBM DNG (DOORS Next Generation) and EWM.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to influence technical direction across multiple engineering disciplines.
• Ability to travel up to 10%, including international travel.

Responsibilities

• Lead the planning and execution of Functional Safety activities by developing Functional Safety Plans (FSPs) and ensuring compliance with ISO 26262 throughout the product lifecycle.
• Provide technical leadership for the development, review, and implementation of Functional Safety work products, including IDEF, HARA, FSC, TSC.
• Serve as the Functional Safety subject matter expert for safety analysis activities, including HARA, FMEA, DFA, FTA, FMEDA and other safety assessments.
• Partner with Functional Safety Managers to develop Development Interface Agreements (DIAs), support Safety Case development, and prepare compliance evidence for Functional Safety assessments and audits.
• Lead supplier Functional Safety engagements, including alignment meetings, technical reviews, and Functional Safety workshops to ensure supplier deliverables and implementations comply with PACCAR Functional Safety requirements and DIA commitments.
• Collaborate with Technical Program Managers and cross-functional engineering teams to ensure timely delivery of Functional Safety artifacts, proactively identify project risks, and remove technical and process roadblocks impacting program execution.
