Job summary

Agility Robotics seeks a Principal Robotics Functional Safety Engineer to lead safety strategy from architecture to deployment. You will shape safety across engineering, collaborate with hardware, software, and controls teams, and guide customers on safe robot deployments.

You will drive risk assessments, safety cases, and compliance activities, mentoring staff while advancing safety architecture for AI/ML features and regulatory readiness.

Qualifications

• BS in Robotics, Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).
• 12+ years in robotics or safety-critical engineering, including 7+ years in functional safety.
• Proven expertise in risk reduction methods and hierarchy of controls.
• Familiarity with ISO 13849, IEC 61508, ANSI/RIA R15.08, ISO 10218-series for mobile/industrial robots.

Responsibilities

• Lead functional safety efforts from concept through deployment and compliance.
• Drive architecture-level safety decisions across current and next-generation robotic platforms.
• Create and maintain safety deliverables: risk assessments, SRS, FMEDA, SISTEMA analyses, safety cases.
• Collaborate across hardware, software, controls, perception, and systems engineering to define safety requirements.
