Job summary

Renesas is seeking a Principal FPGA Emulation & Prototyping Engineer to build FPGA-based platforms that emulate our mixed-signal power ASICs pre-silicon. You will partner with silicon RTL and DSP architects to validate real-time digital, mixed-signal, and power-control architectures, de-risking tape-out and proving up control loops.

These emulation platforms are dedicated to faithful, fast reproduction of target silicon.

Qualifications

• 10+ years FPGA design and implementation experience.
• Expert-level RTL design in SystemVerilog and/or VHDL.
• Deep understanding of FPGA internal architecture and mapping to DSP/memory resources.
• Experience adapting ASIC RTL for FPGA emulation.
• Full FPGA flow: synthesis, place-and-route, timing analysis, constraints (XDC/SDC).
• Hardware bring-up and debug: in-system logic analysis (ILA/SignalTap).
• Proficiency in scripting for automation (TCL, Python).
• Proven technical leadership and mentoring across teams.
• BS or MS in Electrical/Computer Engineering or related field.

Responsibilities

• Partner with silicon RTL/DSP teams to bring ASIC designs to FPGA emulation with real-time performance.
• Adapt ASIC RTL for FPGA while preserving functional equivalence.
• Map designs to FPGA resources to hit emulation speed targets.
• Build real-time environments including analog/power interfaces and HIL with power hardware.
• Develop deep pre-silicon debug with waveform capture, triggering, and assertions.
• Define emulation methodology, flows, and automation (TCL/Python).
• Lead reviews and drive emulation/tooling decisions across teams.
