Job summary

Renesas Electronics in Austin, TX seeks a Principal FPGA Emulation & Prototyping Engineer to build FPGA-based platforms that emulate mixed-signal power ASICs pre-silicon. You will validate real-time control loops and enable debug across RTL, DSP, and firmware.

You will mentor engineers, optimize emulation speed, and collaborate with silicon RTL and DSP teams, delivering faithful and fast pre-silicon validation.

Qualifications

• 10+ years FPGA design and prototyping experience.
• Expert-level RTL design in SystemVerilog and/or VHDL.
• Ability to map designs onto FPGA resources to hit real-time emulation.
• Synthesis/Place-and-Route/Timing analysis on large devices (XDC/SDC).
• Hardware bring-up and debug: ILA/SignalTap.
• Scripting for automation (TCL, Python).
• BS or MS in Electrical or Computer Engineering or related field.

Responsibilities

• Partner with silicon RTL and DSP architects to bring ASIC designs up on FPGA for real-time emulation.
• Adapt RTL for FPGA while preserving functional equivalence and handling clock-gating/memory mapping.
• Map designs onto FPGA fabric to meet emulation speed goals, via resource/inference tuning and clocking.
• Build real-time environment around digital core and interface with analog/power stages; hardware-in-the-loop as needed.
• Develop pre-silicon debug visibility: waveform capture, triggering, assertions; enable firmware co-development.
• Define and improve emulation methodology, flows, and automation; lead tooling decisions.
