Job summary

Salt Lake City Corporation seeks a Senior Crime Scene Technician to lead processing and evidence collection for the Police Crime Lab. You will handle fingerprinting, DNA collection, and high‑level documentation, including 3‑D scene scanning and potential court testimony.

This senior role requires independent problem solving, advanced technical skills, and the ability to train new technicians. A valid Utah driver license is likely required, with opportunities to contribute to major investigations.

Qualifications

• Requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Forensic Science (Criminalistics) or related field; six years’ FT experience in a crime lab preferred.
• Requires 160 hours of outside training in one of the forensic disciplines recognized by IAI/AAFS or similar organization.
• Must possess IAI Crime Scene Analyst or Senior Crime Scene Analyst Certification.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to collaborate with management, officers, and the public.
• Advanced computer skills; familiar with RMS, LIMS, and AFIS.

Responsibilities

• Process and collect evidence at crime scenes and traffic accidents.
• Document scenes through photography and notes; create sketches or 3-D diagrams as needed.
• Locate, develop, photograph, and lift latent fingerprints from scenes and evidence.
• Take inked fingerprints and submit for verification or duplication.
• Maintain clean lab and equipment; operate crime scene vehicles.
• Provide expert testimony in court when required.
• Attend advanced courses in crime scene investigation and forensic tech.
• Orient new personnel and tour the crime lab; perform other duties as needed.
