ABOUT ATMS
ATMS is a turnkey design-build electrical and infrastructure contractor delivering mission-critical work across five market verticals: data centers, wireless and neutral host, EV charging, solar and battery storage, and federal and utility infrastructure.
We are executing a multi-phase electrical build-out at a hyperscale data center campus in Ashburn, Virginia, and we are hiring a Lead Foreman to own the field execution of that scope.
THE ROLE
This is the most important field position on the project. You will run a crew of 15 to 20 technicians in a live hyperscale environment, and you will be the person the client sees, the schedule depends on, and the crew looks to.
We are looking for someone with a proven track record on hyperscale builds specifically — not commercial work that scaled up, but data center work where you have already learned what an outage costs, what a client walkthrough feels like, and why the paperwork matters as much as the pipe.
The right candidate runs the work rather than reacting to it: identifies scope before it is handed to them, documents it, prices the material, sits in the scope meeting, and comes out of it with a plan the crew can execute Monday morning.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
Crew Leadership
- Directly manage and schedule a crew of 15–20 technicians — journeymen, apprentices, and helpers
- Build daily and weekly work plans against the look-ahead; assign work by skill level and keep every hand productive
- Run toolbox talks, enforce safety standards, and hold the crew to the workmanship expectations of a hyperscale client
- Develop your people — identify who is ready for more, coach the ones who are struggling, and elevate honestly when someone is not working out
- Track and approve time, manage manpower loading against the budget, and flag overruns before they become a problem
Scope Identification & Documentation
- Identify scope from drawings, specifications, walkdowns, and field conditions — including scope that is not clearly assigned
- Write clear, defensible scope documents that define what is included, what is excluded, and what assumptions were made
- Recognize out-of-scope and changed work in the field and document it immediately with photos, quantities, and hours
- Support change order and T&M ticket development with accurate field data
- Generate and track RFIs on drawing conflicts and constructability issues rather than installing something you know is wrong
Material Management & Procurement Support
- Identify required materials from drawings and specifications — correct manufacturer, part number, and quantity
- Build accurate material takeoffs and bills of material for purchasing
- Manage lead times and long-lead items; mitigate procurement risk to the PM before it hits the schedule
- Coordinate deliveries, staging, laydown, and on-site material control; minimize waste and shrinkage
- Verify received material against the submittal and the order before it goes to the floor
Client Interface
- Represent ATMS professionally in front of the client, the general contractor, and the trades on a daily basis
- Attend and contribute in scope meetings, coordination meetings, and progress reviews
- Communicate constraints, risks, and schedule impacts clearly and early — no surprises
- Lead client walkthroughs of completed work and respond to punch items promptly
- Understand that on a hyperscale campus, our conduct and our workmanship are how the next contract gets won
Quality Assurance & Quality Control
- Working knowledge of the QA/QC process — inspection and test plans, hold points, checklists, and turnover documentation
- Self-check crew work against drawings and specifications before it is called complete
- Maintain labeling, torque documentation, test records, and as-built redlines current daily rather than reconstructed at the end
- Photograph and document work before it is concealed
- Support commissioning activities and deliver a clean, complete turnover package
Problem Solving
- Think past the obvious answer — find the constructible solution when the drawing, the field condition, and the schedule do not agree
- Resequence work, reallocate crew, and adjust the plan to hold the schedule when conditions change
- Bring solutions to the PM and the client rather than only problems
- Make sound decisions in the field with incomplete information, and know when to stop and elevate instead
WHAT YOU NEED
Required
- Proven track record leading electrical crews on hyperscale data center builds — this is a hard requirement, not a preference
- Demonstrated experience directly managing crews of 15–20 or larger
- Journeyman Electrician license (Virginia or a reciprocal state) or equivalent demonstrated field expertise
- 10+ years in the electrical trade with 3+ years in a foreman or lead role
- Ability to identify scope and produce a written scope document without being walked through it
- Proficiency in material identification — manufacturer, part number, and quantity — and in building takeoffs for ordering
- Professional presence in front of clients and the ability to hold your own in a scope meeting
- Working understanding of QA/QC processes and turnover documentation
- Fluent reading of electrical drawings, one-lines, riser diagrams, submittals, and specifications
- OSHA 30 and NFPA 70E
- Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check for site badging
- Availability for overtime, night shifts, and weekends as the schedule requires
Strongly Preferred
- Experience across multiple hyperscale clients or campuses
- Familiarity with MOP and SOP development and execution in live data center environments
- Proficiency with Procore, Bluebeam, and Microsoft Project or comparable scheduling tools
- Experience supporting Level 1 through Level 5 commissioning
- Prior estimating or preconstruction exposure
- Aerial lift certification and first aid / CPR
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Must be able to lift and carry 50+ lbs, work from ladders and lifts at heights, walk an active construction site for the duration of the shift, and work in confined spaces and overhead as required.
