ABOUT ATMS

ATMS is a turnkey electrical design-build contractor serving five markets: data center and mission-critical, wireless, EV charging, solar and battery storage, and federal and utility infrastructure. We are self-performing the electrical scope on a large-scale data center build in Ashburn, Virginia, and are hiring a Construction Safety Manager to own safety performance on that site from mobilization through closeout.

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Construction Safety Manager is accountable for the safety of every ATMS employee and subcontractor on site. This is a hands-on field role, not a desk role: you will spend the majority of your day in the work areas, observing crews, correcting hazards, and coaching foremen. You will serve as our primary safety point of contact with the general contractor and client safety teams, and you carry full authority to stop work when conditions warrant.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Field Safety Leadership
  • Own daily on-site safety oversight for electrical installation crews.
  • Walk the site continuously to identify hazards, correct unsafe conditions and behaviors in real time, and verify corrective actions are closed out.
  • Exercise stop-work authority whenever an imminent hazard is present, and elevate promptly to project leadership.
  • Coach foremen and crew leads so that safety ownership sits with the crews, not solely with the safety team.
Electrical and High-Risk Work
  • Enforce NFPA 70E compliance, including arc flash boundaries, PPE category selection, and energized work permits.
  • Administer lockout/tagout, verify energy isolation, and audit LOTO documentation.
  • Oversee high-risk activities: fall protection, aerial and scissor lifts, rigging and crane picks, hot work, confined space entry, trenching and excavation, and temporary power and GFCI protection.
Compliance and Documentation
  • Conduct and review daily Job Safety Analyses (JSAs) and pre-task plans; ensure they reflect actual scope and site conditions.
  • Maintain OSHA 300, 300A, and 301 recordkeeping, training records, equipment inspection logs, and SDS files.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA 29 CFR 1926 and 1910, Virginia occupational safety requirements, ATMS policy, and client and general contractor site-specific safety programs.
  • Lead incident investigations, complete root cause analysis, issue corrective actions, and support workers' compensation claim reporting.
  • Prepare and deliver safety metrics and reporting to ATMS leadership, the general contractor, and the client on the required cadence.
Training, Orientation, and Site Access
  • Deliver new-hire safety orientation, weekly toolbox talks, and targeted training on emerging site risks.
  • Verify that all personnel hold current certifications and site-specific credentials before they begin work.
  • Monitor and enforce site access, badging, escort, and building security protocols on a controlled-access campus.
  • Represent ATMS in general contractor and client safety meetings, audits, and inspections.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Five or more years in a dedicated construction safety role, with at least two years as the lead safety representative on a project.
  • OSHA 30-Hour Construction card, current.
  • Working knowledge of NFPA 70E and electrical construction hazards.
  • Demonstrated command of OSHA 29 CFR 1926 and the ability to apply it to live field conditions.
  • First Aid, CPR, and AED certification (or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire).
  • Proven ability to influence and direct field crews, including holding foremen and subcontractors accountable.
  • Strong written documentation skills and comfort with digital safety reporting platforms.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable daily transportation to the Ashburn, VA site.
  • Ability to pass a background check, drug screen, and client site badging requirements.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Direct experience on hyperscale or mission-critical data center construction.
  • Background in electrical construction, whether as a safety professional embedded with electrical crews or as a former electrician.
  • CHST, ASP, CSP, STSC, or OSHA 500 credential.
  • Additional certifications: Bloodborne Pathogens, confined space, competent person for fall protection, excavation, or scaffolding.
  • Experience on secured or access-controlled job sites, including federal or client-restricted facilities.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Active construction site with exposure to noise, dust, temperature extremes, and outdoor conditions. Fast-paced, high-visibility project with a demanding schedule. The role requires the ability to walk and stand for the majority of an 8 to 10 hour shift, climb ladders and stairs, access elevated work areas and lifts, occasionally lift up to 50 pounds, and wear required PPE throughout the workday.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
  • Base salary of $125,000 per year, commensurate with experience.
  • Medical, dental, and vision coverage.
  • 401(k) with company match.
  • Paid time off and paid holidays.
  • Local candidates preferred; relocation assistance may be considered for the right candidate.
